From Mythotechnic Fiction to Mythic Authority

Francisco M. Martinez’s Mythic Authority research program examines what happens when machines, institutions, creators, archives, and exceptionally powerful beings gain authority over the categories through which people understand reality, identity, memory, morality, and human worth.

The program begins with What Is Mythotechnic Fiction?, which defines a literary genre combining technology, mythology, theology, metaphysics, consciousness, memory, horror, and social transformation. Five subsequent papers extend that foundation:

• Mythotechnic Fiction and Technological Authority introduces the machine institution and the Martinez Mythotechnic Dark Leadership Taxonomy.
• Beyond the Vampire develops Predatory Institutional Gothic.
• After the Spark introduces Promethean Authority and the principle that creation creates responsibility, not ownership.
• Beyond the Übermensch presents the Responsible Bearer as an ethical model for power that cannot easily be removed.
• The Martinez Unified Theory of Mythic Authority connects these frameworks through the concepts of categorical sovereignty, mythic closure, and ethical reopening.

Together, the papers argue that authority becomes most dangerous when it controls not only decisions but also the language, evidence, memory, and categories through which those decisions might be challenged. Ethical authority must preserve refusal, testimony, accountability, correction, and meaningful avenues of appeal.
